Buying a used car is one of the biggest purchases most of us make, and a little homework goes a long way. Before you fall in love with the colour or the badge, work through this checklist.

1. Service history: a full service history tells you the car was cared for. 2. Mileage vs age: low kilometres on an older car is not always better. 3. Accident history: ask directly and check panel gaps and paint. 4. Roadworthy: a valid certificate is non-negotiable. 5. Tyres and brakes: budget items that reveal how the car was treated. 6. A proper test drive: listen, feel, and take your time. 7. The paperwork: make sure the seller can actually transfer ownership.

At Elso Cars every vehicle is RMI workshop checked, comes with a roadworthy certificate and a full service history — so most of this list is already done for you.
